Offerings
We administer the following olympiads:
- TIAMSE – Foundation Phase Mathematics Olympiads (Grades 1-3).
- FEMSSISA – Southern African Primary Mathematics Olympiads (Grades 4-7).
- FEMSSISA – Southern African Junior/Senior Mathematics Olympiads (Grades 8-11).
- FEMSSISA – Southern African Primary English Olympiads (Grades 6-7).
- FEMSSISA – Southern African Junior/Senior English Olympiads (Grades 8-11).
Teacher Development SACE Accredited Courses are also available.
TIAMSE stands for: The Institute for Advancement of Mathematics; Sciences and English.
FEMSSISA stands for: Foundation for English ; Mathematics; Sciences; Sports and Innovation of South Africa
How it works
- The entry fee is R20 per learner if school registers on behalf of student. The school will receive R5 per learner. This amount is allocated for downloading and printing the paper; marking; moderation and the issuing a certificate to each learner.
- Minimum number of entries for a school is 20 students per grade.
- The entry fee is R30 per learner if the learner registers as an individual entry independent of the school.
- This Olympiad should be written by all learners. A school may apply for a concession.
- Learners must be encouraged to do working on the paper provided.
- The school is encouraged to do an analysis for each grade. This analysis is for your ‘consumption’.
- The names of the ‘gold medalists together with the marks must be submitted.
- Complete the summary entry form for the learner.
- No teacher should invigilate in respect of the learners taught by them.
- Learners are requested to use ink instead of pencils.
- Complete the registration form below.
- Proceed to the payments section to select the number of entries per grade, or pay for a single learner entry.
- Proceed to payment via the multiple payment options: EFT, Credit Card and other convenient methods.
- Confirmation emails will be sent upon registration and payment.
Maths: Grade 1-3
TIAMSE - Foundation Phase Mathematics Olympiads
- Date: 30 August 2021 to 3 September 2021.
- 15 questions which are multiple choice.
- The first 10 questions carry one mark each.
- The last 5 questions carry two marks each.
- Duration of each paper is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
- Certificates awarded as follows: Gold: 14+; Silver: 10-13; Bronze: 7 – 9; Participation: 0-6.
- Invigilation: Each question must be read by the invigilator. Give the learner about 5 minutes to do the problem. The same procedure should be used for the rest of the questions. Translate to mother tongue when reading.
Maths: Grade 4-7
FEMSSISA - Southern African Primary Mathematics Olympiads
- Date: 30 August 2021 to 3 September 2021.
- 20 questions which are multiple choice.
- The first 15 questions carry one mark each.
- The last 5 questions carry two marks each.
- Duration of each paper is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Certificates awarded as follows: Gold: 17+; Silver: 12-16; Bronze: 8 – 11; Participation: 0-7.
Maths: Grade 8-11
FEMSSISA - Southern African Junior/Senior Mathematics Olympiads
- Date: 30 August 2021 to 3 September 2021.
- 20 questions (1st 15 Multiple Choice, Last 5 open ended).
- The first 15 questions carry one mark each.
- The last 5 questions carry two marks each.
- Duration of each paper is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- Certificates awarded as follows: Gold: 17+; Silver: 12-16; Bronze: 8 – 11; Participation: 0-7.
English: Grade 6-7
FEMSSISA - Southern African Primary English Olympiads
- 16-17 September 2021.
- Duration of each paper is 1 hour.
- Certificates awarded as follows: Gold: 70%+; Silver: 60-69%; Bronze: 50-60%; Participation: 0-49%.
- Each learner is expected to use the question paper as the answer booklet.
English: Grade 8-11
FEMSSISA - Southern African Junior/Senior English Olympiads
- 16-17 September 2021.
- Duration of each paper is 1 hour.
- Certificates awarded as follows: Gold: 70%+; Silver: 60-69%; Bronze: 50-60%; Participation: 0-49%.
- Each learner is expected to use the question paper as the answer booklet.
